When the company owns the animals and the farmer provides the housing and the care, it is often a better situation for the farmer because it removes much of the price risk! Also it is better for the companies because they can have a good handle on the supply of that meat that will be available when it is time to harvest. I guess I just assumed that farmers owned the animals and sold the meat to food companies! Very interesting and makes sense economically. I learned something new today. I really enjoyed this post!
