Bunk training freshly weaned calves

Bull calves heading to the feed bunks for the first time. They have to be taught what to do and where to go. So the first few times, we have all the kids help push them gently toward the bunks.

They're starting to make their way along the bunks, checking out what is in them.

My son quietly pushes the bulls who are not eating at the bunk to a spot where there is room for them to eat.

Once they are all eating, we ease out of the pen, letting them eat their fill at the bunks. After a few days of teaching them to go to the bunks, they are "bunk trained" and easy to feed with just one person.

  1. I've been listening to the music of our newly weaned calves all weekend :-)
