Cold Saturday on Christmas break

All the kids are home--yesterday was the last day of school and they are now officially all on Christmas break! So what did my husband do this morning? He made them all get up early to work! On a cattle ranch, there is always work to be done, and when the labor is around, we don't let them sleep, I guess!

So a couple of kids went to set up a pen to catch the last of the heifers so we could bring them home and give them their pre-calving vaccination, while the other three kids headed out to finish building a mile and a half of barbed wire fence. I was officially given the job of making sure a hot lunch was ready to eat the instant everyone finished their "quick" chore--and also I was to hook up the trailer and head to the pasture to haul heifers home.

As I was leaving, Hubby reminded me to bring my camera! So I snapped a few pictures of the furry heifers and the boys helping my husband sort and load the small group of heifers. I didn't make it in time to get pictures of the fence builders, and I didn't have enough hands to take pictures and administer shots while we vaccinated, but enjoy these photos today anyway.

Tomorrow I hope we have time to do some "old fashioned" Christmas things:  bake cookies, hang up lights on the house and maybe even watch the movie "It's a Wonderful Life." That's my husband's favorite Christmas movie!

Even if we don't have time to do Christmas things tomorrow, I promised the kids they could sleep in on Monday! Sleeping in for teens means...no noise until after noon!

  2. Even just taking care of a house is a full-time job, it's difficult to imagine also taking care of acres of fence and many animals on top of that. No wonder everyone must get involved!
