Spring has Sprung!

A killdeer egg in the middle of the cattle pen is a sure sign of spring!
Lilacs are ready to bloom (they actually are in full bloom now!)
It's time to vaccinate baby calves. My son guards the gate on 20 calves...yes, that is my finger, too. *sigh*

We pour special medicine on the cows' back to kill lice, ticks and internal worms. This is my son's girlfriend getting into the act! Cows also receive vaccinations for veneral disease and other common cattle diseases.
Babies and mamas must be separated for a time while we work them, but they are very happy to be reunited!!
A glass of wine at sunset while the kids catch 15 large mouth bass at our farm pond! Whew....what a week!

    1. Thanks! Wine just tastes better out of a glass instead of red Solo cup! :)

  2. We just vaccinated and wormed all of our calves around here too. And a glass of wine is always deserved after doing that all day!

    1. I totally agree! We don't always have time in the evening after work to kick back and relax, but often fall into bed after a shower. We don't always have enough energy to eat at the end of vaccination day!! But if we don't have fun doing it--why do we do it? I love my life! Hope you do too!!

  3. Very cool post Debbie! I need to do something similar to this to diversify my blog. I really like this because it shows those people that are not on a farm everyday what we do picture by picture!

    1. Thanks, Cody!! That is what my blog is all about...telling what my life is like on a ranch to those people who are not from agriculture. Each blog is different...and it is difficult to make a blog speak to both aggies & non-aggies. For example, many ranchers may read my blog and think what I'm saying is boring. But people who don't do this every day seem to like hearing what my job is all about.

  4. I came across your blog through Cause Matters and am loving it! I also love how great a well deserved glass of wine tastes at the end of a very long day/week! Cheers!
